VOTE NO ON 1 RELEASE FIRST AD: GREEDY CORPORATIONS ARE TRYING TO RIG OUR CONSTITUTION LIKE THEY HAVE RIGGED THE ECONOMY

NASHVILLE — On Tuesday, the Vote No on 1 Committee released its first digital ad in the campaign to stop Amendment 1 to the Tennessee Constitution. “Greedy corporations are trying to rig our constitution,” is the simple message the ad delivers in plain text from a keyboard.

“We know it’s confusing for people, why would they amend the Constitution to put in a law that has been in effect since 1947? But it really is simple, laws like Amendment 1 rig our economy against working families and for big corporations,” said Kermit Moore from the A. Philip Randolph Institute of Memphis.

Wes Trotterchaud, a Teamster from East Tennessee added, “Corporate CEOs see workers at places like Amazon and Starbucks rising up around the country and so they want to put these anti-worker laws in the constitution to make them almost impossible to change in the future.”

Vonda McDaniel, President of the Central Labor Council of Nashville and Middle TN, said, “states with laws like Amendment 1 have less school funding, lower wages, and more workplace deaths. There is absolutely no reason to put this in the Constitution, that’s why we’re saying NO to Amendment 1.”
